{"id":102,"date":"2026-08-10T20:42:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T20:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/?p=102"},"modified":"2026-08-10T21:06:40","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T21:06:40","slug":"three-suspects-linked-to-murder-of-dr-mutiso-detained-for-30-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/?p=102","title":{"rendered":"Three suspects linked to murder of Dr Mutiso detained for 30 days"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The High Court has allowed an application seeking a 30-day detention of police officer Elijah Kibelion Kimoi and co-accused Daniel Njoroge and Kevin Kinuthia, linked to the murder of Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trio was arraigned on Monday as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) told the court that they played a specific role in the killing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The High Court has allowed an application seeking a 30-day detention of police officer Elijah Kibelion Kimoi and co-accused Daniel Njoroge and Kevin Kinuthia, linked to the murder of Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trio was arraigned on Monday as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) told the court that they played a specific role in the killing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/dr-MUTISO-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-108\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/dr-MUTISO-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/dr-MUTISO-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/dr-MUTISO-768x432.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/dr-MUTISO.jpeg 1120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">PHOTO: Peter Maruti\/Victoria Mutiso<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his ruling,&nbsp;&nbsp;Magistrate Paul Mutai&nbsp;noted that the safety of the three suspects can&#8217;t be guaranteed if released at this stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I note that one of the suspects is a serving police officer and if the respondents are released on bond there&#8217;s a likelihood that they will interfere with investigations<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-He ruled <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an affidavit, DCI Homicide Investigations Bureau officer Corporal Romana Odour says preliminary investigations have already established the alleged roles of the suspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Preliminary investigations have established that the 1st respondent, Kimoi, is the one who fired the fatal shot-Oduor stated<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigators allege that Njoroge, the second respondent, was driving a black Toyota Prado registration number KDH 600A, which allegedly blocked the Uber Toyota Passo registration KDJ 609D in which Dr. Mutiso was aboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The third suspect, Kinuthia, is alleged to have used motorcycle registration number KMGZ 980D to transport Kimoi to and from the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Three suspects linked to Dr Victoria Mutiso murder detained for 30 days\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/s8tdm4Qlm2I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The affidavit states that the three suspects were arrested on August 7, 2026, during what the DCI describes as an \u201cintelligence-led operation\u201d and were placed in custody at Ruaraka, Pangani, and Gigiri police stations,&nbsp;respectively.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigators allege that Njoroge, the second respondent, was driving a black Toyota Prado registration number KDH 600A, which allegedly blocked the Uber Toyota Passo registration KDJ 609D in which Dr. Mutiso was aboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The third suspect, Kinuthia, is alleged to have used motorcycle registration number KMGZ 980D to transport Kimoi to and from the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The affidavit states that the three suspects were arrested on August 7, 2026, during what the DCI describes as an \u201cintelligence-led operation\u201d and were placed in custody at Ruaraka, Pangani, and Gigiri police stations,&nbsp;respectively.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Mini Jericho pistol, serial number 47302127, was subsequently recovered and examined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the DCI, &#8220;The  preliminary ballistic opinion links the recovered cartridge cases and bullet head to that firearm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> According to the DCI, preliminary ballistic opinion links the recovered cartridge cases and bullet head to that firearm.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigators further say the firearm was issued to a senior police officer who is at large.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The DCI has also identified a land dispute involving Dr. Mutiso as a possible motive for the killing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigators say the deceased was involved in a dispute over L.R.
