{"id":144,"date":"2026-08-12T07:27:46","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T07:27:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/?p=144"},"modified":"2026-08-12T07:27:46","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T07:27:46","slug":"us-warns-its-citizens-against-traveling-to-4-african-countries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/?p=144","title":{"rendered":"US Warns Its Citizens Against Traveling to 4 African Countries"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The United States(US) has issued a travel advisory warning its citizens against visiting several countries in East and Central Africa following an Ebola Bundibugyo virus outbreak in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of State also advised citizens to reconsider travel to Rwanda, which has been placed under a Level 3 advisory (\u201cReconsider Travel\u201d) as health authorities continue to monitor the regional situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of State strongly urges Americans not to travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), South Sudan, or Uganda for any reason and to reconsider travel to Rwanda due to the Ebola Bundibugyo Virus disease outbreak in the region, reads the advisory in part.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Department\u2019s Travel Advisories for DRC, South Sudan, and Uganda are now Level 4 \u2013 Do Not Travel, and the Travel Advisory for Rwanda is Level 3 \u2013 Reconsider Travel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Monday May 18, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a Level 3 Travel Health Notice, advising travellers to \u201creconsider nonessential travel\u201d to the DRC due to the ongoing Ebola outbreak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A day earlier, on May 17, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak in the DRC and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), signalling a coordinated global response to contain the spread of the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the same day, Rwanda moved to close its land border with the DRC as a precautionary measure following rising health risks in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Health-officials-Guinea-WHO-2026-05-17.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-145\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Health-officials-Guinea-WHO-2026-05-17.jpg 750w, https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Health-officials-Guinea-WHO-2026-05-17-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the U.S. travel advisory, Ituri Province in the DRC has been classified as Level 4 (Do Not Travel), citing extremely limited capacity for emergency assistance to American citizens in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authorities have warned against travel to the region under any circumstances due to the severity of the outbreak and limited access to medical evacuation services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of State said it worked closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in issuing a May 18, 2026 Title 42 order, which prohibits entry into the United States for foreign nationals who have visited the DRC, Uganda, and South Sudan within the past 21 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, the Department stated that it is working with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to implement the order and enforce any future CDC quarantine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Travellers and residents in affected areas have been advised to take strict precautions, including monitoring for symptoms for up to 21 days after potential exposure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CDC has also urged individuals to consult healthcare providers immediately if Ebola symptoms appear&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They have also been advised to continue malaria prophylaxis, as malaria symptoms can resemble Ebola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Citizens should also confirm travel insurance coverage, including medical evacuation options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Inside the Ebola Ward | Virus Outbreak 2014 | The New York Times\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YGVBHRYvi3s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
