{"id":43,"date":"2026-08-05T19:56:05","date_gmt":"2026-08-05T19:56:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/?p=43"},"modified":"2026-08-05T19:56:05","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T19:56:05","slug":"dci-hunts-alleged-drug-trafficker-who-vanished-with-rented-car","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/?p=43","title":{"rendered":"DCI hunts alleged drug trafficker who vanished with rented car"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-avatar\"><img alt='Mary Musembi Avatar' src='https:\/\/secure.gravatar.com\/avatar\/976cde03af99b00e67aa976c4b8c15329a463e4a28da40daa474e6c64940652b?s=96&#038;d=mm&#038;r=g' srcset='https:\/\/secure.gravatar.com\/avatar\/976cde03af99b00e67aa976c4b8c15329a463e4a28da40daa474e6c64940652b?s=192&#038;d=mm&#038;r=g 2x' class='avatar avatar-96 photo wp-block-avatar__image' height='96' width='96' \/><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-post-author-name\">Mary Musembi<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are pursuing a suspect linked to an alleged motor vehicle theft and drug trafficking after he disappeared with a rented vehicle a week ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The suspect, identified as Samuel Omondi Audi, allegedly rented a Mazda CX-5 from a car hire agent in Utawala after claiming he needed it for a 10-day trip to Mombasa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vehicle owner later discovered that the car&#8217;s GPS tracking device had been removed and dumped along Kangundo Road in Machakos County, raising fears that the vehicle had been stolen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-08-05-at-22.44.30-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-08-05-at-22.44.30-1024x682.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-08-05-at-22.44.30-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-08-05-at-22.44.30-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-08-05-at-22.44.30-1536x1023.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/theupdatehub.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-08-05-at-22.44.30.jpeg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Detectives have launched investigations to trace the suspect and recover the missing vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to investigators, Audi rented the vehicle from owner Martin Maranga Nyandusi after being referred by another car hire agent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Believing the request was genuine, Nyandusi released the vehicle, which was delivered to the suspect in Kahawa Sukari, off Thika Road, on July 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two days later, the owner became suspicious after noticing that the vehicle had remained stationary for an unusual period.When he followed the GPS signal, he found only the tracking device, which had been removed from the vehicle and abandoned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He took the vehicle and appeared to be heading to Kitui. The tracker later showed it was along Kangundo Road in Joska. When we got there, we found that the tracker had been removed. The vehicle is only two months old. He had agreed to pay Ksh.7,000 per day,-Nyandusi said .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The matter was reported to the police, who said the suspect is already under investigation over alleged drug trafficking activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Detectives believe he may have been using hired vehicles to transport narcotics and say the latest incident fits a pattern they are investigating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"DCI hunts suspect over stolen rental car\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fyR4l0BKnVc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Police records indicate that Audi is facing an ongoing court case and has previously been arrested over alleged drug trafficking offences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In March 2024, he was arrested along the Keroka-Sotik road after allegedly being found transporting cannabis in a rented Nissan Tiida.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Four months later, he was arrested again in Kibera after allegedly evading a police operation along the Kisii-Migori highway. Investigators claimed he was transporting narcotics in a rented Nissan X-Trail<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Police told us they already have a file on him and that he has a case in court,&#8221; Nyandusi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We are cooperating with the police and urging them to help us.
