Two dead after tanker explodes on Eldoret-Webuye highway

Two people have been confirmed dead while 14 others were injured following a petroleum tanker explosion along the Eldoret-Turbo road near Paul Boit Secondary School on Thursday night.

The two are suspected to have died when they tried to collect fuel from the oil tanker following the accident.The Kenya Red Cross on Thursday said the incident triggered a mass casualty response in the area.

Kenya Red Cross is on the ground responding in collaboration with Kenya Police and firefighters,” the organisation said in a post on X at around 10:30 pm

The Red Cross did not immediately provide details on the number of people killed or injured in the incident.Motorists were urged to avoid the affected section of the road to allow emergency teams unhindered access as they respond to the incident.
