President William Ruto has announced that 20 per cent of all houses constructed under the Affordable Housing Programme will be reserved for teachers across the country.
Speaking during a public event, the President said the move is aimed at improving the welfare of teachers by helping them access decent and affordable housing. He noted that teachers play a critical role in shaping the country’s future and deserve better living conditions.
Ruto said the government remains committed to implementing the Affordable Housing Programme as part of its broader plan to provide quality and affordable homes to Kenyans. He added that the reserved units will give teachers an opportunity to own homes at favourable terms.
The President urged teachers to take advantage of the housing initiative once the units become available. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting educators through policies aimed at improving their working and living conditions.
Education stakeholders welcomed the announcement, saying it will help address housing challenges faced by many teachers, especially those working in urban areas where rent costs remain high.
