Safaricom has launched the Shariah-compliant Ziidi Fund, becoming the first mobile money provider in Kenya to offer an Islamic money market investment option through its M-Pesa platform. The new fund is designed to give customers an investment solution that aligns with Islamic financial principles.The Shariah-compliant Ziidi Fund allows users to grow their savings while ensuring investments are made in accordance with Islamic law. The fund avoids interest-based transactions and investments in sectors considered non-compliant under Shariah guidelines. Customers can access the service directly through M-Pesa, making it easier for more Kenyans to participate in ethical investing.Speaking during the launch, Safaricom officials said the new product is part of the company’s efforts to promote financial inclusion and provide customers with a wider range of investment options. The firm noted that demand for Islamic financial products has been growing across the country, particularly among customers seeking faith-based investment opportunities.Industry analysts say the introduction of the Shariah-compliant Ziidi Fund could help expand access to investment products while attracting new users to the M-Pesa ecosystem.
