Asset financing company Watu Credit has reduced the deposit required for new boda boda riders seeking motorcycle financing, a move aimed at making motorcycle ownership more accessible and supporting income generation among young Kenyans.
The company said the revised financing plan is designed to lower the financial barriers that prevent many riders from acquiring motorcycles for commercial use. By reducing the initial deposit, Watu Credit hopes to enable more people to join the boda boda sector and improve their livelihoods.
According to the company, the initiative comes at a time when demand for affordable transport services continues to grow across the country. The boda boda industry remains one of Kenya’s largest sources of employment, particularly for youth, providing transport services and supporting small businesses.
Industry stakeholders welcomed the move, noting that easier access to financing could help expand economic opportunities and increase motorcycle ownership among riders who previously struggled to raise the required deposit. Watu Credit said it remains committed to providing flexible financing solutions that promote financial inclusion and economic empowerment.
